Are You Dead Yet?

Marti’s tenth book, her fourth novel, is intriguingly titled “Are You Dead Yet?” and is set in the fictional town of Selby, SC, with a wink and a nod to her first novel, “The Rhythm of Selby.”

The story focuses on the Fitzrose family; specifically the three mid-life sisters who represent the end of the Fitzrose line.  Each is highly talented yet undeniably on the verge of her own version of madness – a concert pianist who will not play; a prize wining writer who has lost her stories; a dedicated painter who has just one subject to paint (teapots).

One-by-one, the sisters have returned to the crumbling old family mansion, which stands in the shadows of the woods and their haunted Selby childhoods.  Here, they struggle through their separate lives, personal secrets, and uncertain memories.  Until a singular stranger in the woods enters their lives:  a transient piano turner.

The book features the author’s trademark narrative style, transporting the reader into the story experientially, leading them through all the sights, sounds, and emotions of the characters and settings.  It is a gently mysterious story, intergenerational, layered and lyrical, about family, identity, love, forgiveness, and the power of grace.
